Not far from the station sits Fritz Reuter on a two-meter-high granite plinth, which was built here in honor of the great Low German poet who lived in Neubrandenburg from 1856 to 1863.

Not far from the train station, a venerable gentleman looks out at the hustle and bustle around him from a two-meter-high granite pedestal. We are standing in front of the Fritz Reuter monument, which was erected here in honor of the great Low German poet who lived in Neubrandenburg from 1856 to 1863.

The poet, who was born in Stavenhagen, felt connected to his Neubrandenburg like no other city and his Neubrandenburgers thanked him by raising 32,000 marks in a fundraising campaign and having this monument built in 1893.

Fritz Reuter worked as a teacher and had his most productive literary years here in Neubrandenburg. He wrote, among other things: “Kein Hüsung”, probably his most socially critical work.
