Formerly a wooden church built by the Vikings, it is now difficult to trace which parts of the cathedral are from which period. The building structure gradually deteriorated and so the Christ Church Cathedral had to be extensively renovated. Even though the cathedral is quite a bit smaller than St. Patrick's Cathedral, there is a lot to see here. This includes the tomb of Richard De Clare, also known as Strongbow. The real tomb was destroyed a long time ago, so there is only a "replacement tomb" here. There is also a crypt here, which is the largest in an Irish and English cathedral. Here lie historical treasures and works of art.
