In this lovingly designed moor and foe museum you can learn many exciting details about life with the moor, from impressive machines, scary haunted figures to the flora and fauna. Typical dishes and drinks are available in the tea room. You can even find an e-bike filling station here. The prices are fair, 4 euros for adults and 2 euros for children from the age of six.

Very lovingly furnished facility that explains many connections that we "modern" people no longer know. In front of the museum there are benches in the shade of the trees - good for a rest - otherwise the associated tea room is a recommendation. E-bike gas station !!!

Story

The Moor and Fehn Museum was founded on June 6, 1986 by the Elisabethfehn local and beautification association on the initiative of its chairman Gustav Schünemann. Historical and old machines for peat cutting are shown on an area of 15,000 m². The history of the moor and peat mining are clearly presented.

The museum was built in an old canal keeper's house built in 1896 and in a typical Fehn house from 1993. It offers a highly interesting collection and detailed information about bogs, peat and peatland colonization.

Within the museum buildings, the visitor is introduced to, among other things, the topics “formation of the bogs”, “moor types”, “flora and fauna of the moors”, “moor archaeology”, “social history of moor settlements” as well as “cultivation (fen culture, German raised moor culture, mixed sand culture) and “Using the Moors” is explained in detail using pictures, exhibits, models and descriptions.

Story

The Moor and Fehn Museum was founded on June 6, 1986 by the local and beautification association Elisabethfehn on the initiative of its chairman Gustav Schünemann. On an area of 15,000 m², historical and old machines for peat cutting are shown. The history of the moor and peat extraction are vividly presented.
The museum is housed in an old canal keeper's house built in 1896 and in a typical 1993 fen house. It offers a highly interesting collection and detailed information on bog, peat and bog colonization.
Inside the museum building, the visitor is introduced to the topics "Origin of the moors", "Moor types", "Flora and fauna of the moors", "Moor archaeology", "Social history of the moor settlements" as well as "Cultivation" (fen culture, German raised moor culture, sandy mixed culture) and Use of the moors” is explained in detail using images, exhibits, models and descriptions.

Then the museum also owns a wooden mother ship "Johanna". This is an original replica of a nut from around 1900 and was recreated by the museum itself and is 15.70 meters long and 3.60 meters wide. These special exhibitions inform the visitor about things worth knowing from the areas of moor and peat, about regional peculiarities, scientific topics and interesting collector areas. Once a month (Sunday) there is a demonstration baking in an old stone oven from the Saterland.
