The Ezelpoort is one of the four remaining Bruges city gates.

The gate is part of the second Bruges city wall from 1297. It was rebuilt in 1369 by Bruges residents Jan Slabbert and Mathias Saghen after the example of the Smedenpoort and Boeveriepoort. In the 17th century it was radically renovated in several phases (1615, 1632, 1677). Thorough restoration in 1991-1993.

Characteristic of this gate is that, just like the Smedenpoort, it is completely surrounded by water. Today the gate is only used by pedestrians and cyclists.

In the past, the gate was sometimes also referred to as the Oostendsche Poort (Porte d'Ostende), because it ended on the road to Ostend.

Since 2010, the administration of Anima Eterna Brugge, the orchestra of Jos Van Immerseel, has been housed inside the gate. This music company is the resident orchestra of the Concertgebouw.

The lower gate has been preserved all this time. In 1906 the gate was thoroughly restored. The last restoration dates from 1991-1993. Today, the Ezelpoort houses the orchestra Anima Eterna Bruges.
