On the trestle
“Wanderer, wherever you may be and are, remember that the Lord will one day be your judge,” Josef Arndt, a farmer with large arable land locally and festival host of the St. Johannes-Schützenfraternschaft, at the level of Haar. Surrounded by a small group of trees, next to the cross on a bench you will find a welcome rest area with a view over Wickede, behind it on the left side the Echthauser Forest, further to the right the Holy Spirit Monastery in Wimbern and even further the outskirts of the city of Menden as well as the whole in the west the slopes of the wider Ruhr Valley. The view to the horizon shows the mountains of the Sauerland to the east, the heights of the Balver Forest to the south with a height of a good 500m above zero, one of the highest elevations in the region, and further to the west the mountain ranges of the Bergisches Land. By the way: With a 180 degree turn, if visibility is good, you can see all the way to Hamm and the Münsterland that begins behind it.
