Today a rather small, insignificant bridge, but when it was built in 1802 it was an important crossing over the Moorgraben, because the old military road led over here. It is popularly known as Napoleon Bridge, but the origin of the name is not entirely clear, as Napoleon had not yet occupied the Kingdom of Hanover when it was founded.

The bridge crosses the ship moat and is from 1802. But a map shows that there was a bridge as early as 1780, over which the “Alte Herrstrasse” led from Gut Poggenhagen to Landestrost Castle.

In the Leine newspaper from 8.11. In 2007 it was reported about the discovery of a reader who identified the dirt road culvert over the "Schiffsgraben" in the southern extension of Lindenstrasse as a so-called "Napoleon Bridge". The bridge was built for the passage of Napoleon's troops. What's doubtful about that? The culvert, built of rubble stones, has keystones on both sides. While one bears initials that have yet to be identified, the southwestern stone is not inscribed 1807 but 1802. The "2" was written similar to a "Z".

Napoleon only attacked the Electorate of Hanover in June 1803 after the King of England, i.e. the Elector of Hanover, had declared war on him. Such an insignificant culvert could hardly have been built in anticipatory obedience to Napoleonic power.

This much is already certain: This is a crossing of the historic ship ditch, which was created during a recession in 1753 and was intended to enable the transport of peat in ships from the moor to the Leine. However, this passage was created later, with today's dimensions no boat could cross the bridge.
