The billy goat trail, also billy goat hiking trail, leads from Lambrecht to Deidesheim. Every year on Whit Tuesday, a large number of hikers complete this route as part of the billy goat auction to accompany a bride and groom who, according to an old custom, has to deliver a billy goat in Deidesheim (which is now driven for animal welfare reasons). The group makes a short stop at the Deidesheimer Hütte and is greeted by a Deidesheimer dressed as a “prince-bishop's forest ranger”, who is accompanied by some “city soldiers”, also in historical costumes.

The donkey trail, also known as the donkey hiking trail, leads from the Benjental forester's lodge over the 449 m high Knoppenweth (forest pasture) and the Kupferbrunn Valley to the Deidesheimer Hütte, from where it then leads together with the billy goat hiking trail through the Mühltal out of the forest. The donkey path is reminiscent of the historical event that Deidesheim had the flour from its mills in the Benjental (today Gimmeldinger Tal) transported the arduous path through the forest here with donkeys after the neighboring Kurpfalz had set up a customs barrier at the Looganlage (source Wikipedia)

A super nice hiking trail along the creek. Great to run. But less suitable for prams etc. When it rains, it gets pretty muddy here very quickly.
