    Kanal, which starts in the southwest of the Steinhuder Meer and ends at the Hagenburger Schloss. The channel is very popular with anglers and canoe riders.

      The Hagenburg Canal was artificially created in the 1760s. From here, building materials for the fill-up of Wilhelmstein Island and fortress construction on boats could be transported directly.                   For Count Wilhelm, Hagenburg and the Steinhuder Meer were the main locations of his military activities. While he oversaw the training of his troops on Wilhelmsteiner Feld and Wilhelmstein Fortress, the Count lived in Hagenburg Castle.

                  In order to be able to reach the sea and the fortress better, in 1772 he had a branch canal about 1.5 km long that ends directly at the castle.
