LøgumklosterKirche is located in the middle of the city and was built around 1225–1325 as a monastery church for the Cistercian monastery founded in 1173.

The cruciform church was integrated into the monastery building. Only part of the south wing of the monastery building has been preserved.

The design of the church building is based on the regulations of the Cistercian order; The building is cross-shaped with an east-facing choir and two side chapels, two transverse arms in the north and south and finally the three-aisled church interior in the west. The windows show the long construction time. Arched windows from the early Romanesque style can be seen on the gables in the east and north, while the south and west sides have pointed arched windows from the Gothic period.

The Løgumklosters monastery church is one of the most impressive buildings in Denmark. Similar to Bad Doberan, only part of the original four-winged monastery complex has been preserved in Løgumkloster.

The monastery church of Løgumkloster is a three-aisled brick basilica, which shows the transition from the Romanesque to the Gothic style due to its long construction period. The Romanesque elements include the arched windows in the east. The rich furnishings of the sacred building go back above all to the 14th to 16th centuries. The altar dates from the 15th century.

The preserved part of the east wing of the monastery complex with dormitory and chapter house dates from the third quarter of the 13th century. It connects to the south of the transept of the church. After the Reformation, the monastery buildings were demolished. In 1614 the stones were used to build the neighboring hunting lodge. Today there is a church music school and the training center of the Danish Folkekirke, among other things, on the monastery grounds.

The monastery was founded in 1173 by the Cistercian monks on the Brede Å (Au). The town of Løgumkloster developed around the church and monastery in the Middle Ages. The monastery was closed in 1548.

Løgumkloster Church was built in the period 1225-1325. Of the 4 original wings, only the east wing (capital hall and dormitory) and the north wing are left today. The Løgumkloster Church is - like the Sorø Monastery Church - one of the most remarkable and beautiful church buildings in Denmark from the Middle Ages.
