A limestone soil, a sunny spot and a slope: it is the ideal combination for producing red wine. And that is exactly what two sisters, under the name 'Les Dames et du Vin', do together here. Even if you don't visit the vineyard, you will feel like you are in France against this backdrop.

The Bergenhoezeberg vineyard was planted in the spring of 2019 on the southern slope of the Noordal, halfway up the Bergenhuizen slope. The sisters Ellen and Vera Huls, united under the name Les Dames et du Vin, bought this plot in 2010 to graze young horses on it, as part of the Heuvelland rearing company, which is located on top of the mountain.

The special breeding ground from which the horses previously benefited, now forms the excellent terroir for wine growing. The combination of limestone soil and the sunny hill with a 20% slope make the plot extremely suitable for the production of red wine.

The choice fell on the Merlot grape, a French classic with authentic properties. 700 vines have been planted and the first bottle of Merlot from Dutch soil (open ground) is expected to be served in 2022. The vineyard is grown sustainably and circularly as much as possible, for example, the falcon catches the mice and horse manure from our own stables is used for fertilization. The grapes are picked by hand.
