This nature reserve is called Hochter Bampd and is managed by the Limburgs Landschap vzw nature association. Enjoy a pleasant stroll between the Meuse and the Zuid-Willemsvaart canal, or simply follow the road and then paths (as here), between the Meuse and the Wissenplas (the canal is a bit further away here).

Short description: "The Hochter Bampd nature reserve is located just north of Maastricht on the Belgian side of the Meuse Valley in the municipality of Lanaken. The area consists of a large pond along the banks of the Meuse River where cormorants and herons have their regular haunts. Along it, tall riparian forests, grasslands, and dense thickets of scrub alternate. Almost every year, large parts of the Hochter Bampd flood in winter. This causes a new layer of clay or sand to be deposited each time."
