The name "Roter Haubarg" is disconcerting at first glance. You'd look in vain for the color red. White-plastered and with a massive thatched roof, the farmhouse stands there and can be seen from far across the marsh. The first Rote Haubarg once had a red tiled roof. After a fire in 1759, the building was rebuilt and covered with thatch. The color disappeared, but the name remained.
The farm, built in 1684, is an impressive example of the lifestyle of the region's marsh farmers and a testament to their former wealth. Stables, hallway, living rooms, and bedrooms were arranged around the square base of the house. Hay was piled up beneath its over 20-meter-high roof.
Today, the Rote Haubarg is a restaurant and café, but also part of the Eiderstedt Local History Museum. In the adjoining Agricultural Museum, visitors are given a comprehensive insight into the everyday life of the residents during the heyday of the large Haubarg. And those who wish can even get married there.

The Red Haubarg is the only Haubarg open to the public.

It is part of the Asmussen-Woldsen legacy.

A 1,200-square-meter wildflower meadow was planted in front of the Red Haubarg as part of the "Blooming Eiderstedt" project. It delights not only bumblebees, but also bees, and butterflies with its colorful splendor.

The only publicly accessible hooded coffin
on Eiderstedt "Haubarge" - this type of building comes from Holland - once existed in our region by the hundreds, mostly on Eiderstedt, and the best known is the "Rote Haubarg", contrary to its name, a white, thatched house with integrated agricultural rooms.
Cattle, servants, farm owners and his family were all united under one roof in a hooded coffin. There are still a few dozen such buildings, but the "Rote Haubarg" at Witzwort is the only one that is accessible to the general public.
