During the expansion of a farm road, an approx. 80 m long section of the Eifel aqueduct was exposed here; part of the vault collapsed. A look inside the pipe shows the cast concrete channel (Opus caementicium), which is coated on the sole and the cheeks with a thin layer of reddish water plaster (Opus signinum). When mixed with crushed bricks, the plaster had not only got its reddish color, but also its hydraulic effect, thus ensuring that the pipe was leak-proof. Source: Information board on site.
