The forest estate is located between the communities of Meezen, Hennstedt and Aukrug, which is why Waldhütten offers good transport links despite its remoteness. The company in Waldhütten itself manages 190 hectares of forest and 23 hectares of water. The forestry company has specialized in the Christmas tree business over the years. Every year on the 3rd and 4th Advent the Waldhütten Christmas Market takes place, where, in addition to the sale of Christmas trees, there is also mulled wine, bratwurst and smoked fish from their own ponds.

The first thing that catches your eye is the historic granary, idyllically located between ancient trees. Behind it, old farm buildings, built from field stones and wood. Imaginative visitors to this enchanted place certainly wouldn't be surprised if elves lived here. Some buildings in forest huts have been converted into holiday homes, and so it is more city dwellers seeking peace and quiet who are seen fishing here than elves and dwarves.
