As perfectly as the Schluchsee fits into the landscape of the Black Forest, you might think that it is a natural lake. The level of the Ur-Schluchsee was about 30 meters below the level of today's lake. It emerged in its present form through the construction of the dam, which was completed in 1932. Since then, the Schluchsee has been the highest reservoir lake in Germany.

The Schluchsee is also the upper basin of the Hhäusern pumped storage plant, which in turn is part of the Schluchsee group, a series of reservoirs between Hütten and Waldshut, which are connected by pumping stations.

The path on the south bank of the Schluchsee is more beautiful and, above all, much quieter than the path that runs along the north bank, since there are no (federal) roads and no rails near the path; there are therefore significantly more hikers and cyclists on the south bank path.
Halfway there is the Vesperstube Unterkrummenhof.

It's a beautiful lake, although the water level is a bit low at the moment. You can rent e-bikes at the dam to cycle around the lake.
