          "The Niederburg impresses with its location on an isolated, steep rocky ridge bordered by a bend in the Lieser river. The impressive ruins of the Niederburg are the younger of the two Manderscheid castles. However, their origin has not yet been satisfactorily explained The oldest surviving parts of the complex certainly include the square keep on the highest point of the mountain, parts of the ring wall and the palace.

              While the lower castle itself is more exciting than the castle, you have a great view down from the upper castle.
