The church on one of the highest elevations in Rathendorf is widely visible in the place. Their first mention as a fortified church goes back to the year 1170.
On March 31, 2000, the church fell victim to an arson attack, burned down to its foundations and would then externally built almost identical new. Internally, the church was completely redesigned.
