The historic Hoper mill "Edda" is the landmark of St. Michaelisdonn. The mill is in the district of Hopen on the Geestrand on the old cliff, the Klev, and can be seen from afar. The historical-tourist leisure guide "HISTOUR Dithmarschen", published by Boyens-Buchverlag in Heide, writes the following about it: "The mill 'Edda' deserves to be highlighted among the mills, not only because of its structural beauty (thatched roof, wooden paneling of the lower part ), but also because of its wonderful location above the Geestrand, it is the 'diva' among German mills.”

Its predecessor, a post mill made of beech wood, is said to have been moved here in 1666 to replace a neighboring water mill. When the famous theologian and son of a miller, Claus Harms, married the daughter of Hoper Müller in 1806, the wings of the Bockmühle were in scissors. In 1920 the mill, which was built in 1842, was renamed "Marie" and in 1952 "Edda", because that was the name of a daughter-in-law of the miller Jürgens, whose ancestors had worked here since 1762. "Edda" is largely functional to this day.

A comprehensive restoration was carried out in 1999 and 2000. In 2020, many construction defects and woodworm infestations were found. A lot of donations are needed to tackle the renewed renovation. The Hoper mill "Edda" built in 1842 is a so-called Dutch windmill. The mill and the associated courtyard are located between Hopen and the center of St.Michaelisdonn. From the Klev, on which the windmill stands, you have a good view of the town of St Michaelisdonn and the march.
