          The waterfall, located southwest of Zillhausen, impressively shows the typical "waterfall layers" of the Middle Jura in the border area of the Opalinus Clay (formerly the Braunjura alpha and beta). The Büttenbach has cut deeply into the rock and falls around 24 m down here. He opens up an impressive natural spectacle to the viewer. It shows its full impressiveness especially after long rains. The waterfall is spectacular in winter, when the watercourse has completely frozen into ice. A steel staircase enables the descent to the streambed.
          The formation of the waterfall is explained using an information board. This natural spectacle can be combined with the GeoWanderweg, in the course of which further geological features can be discovered.

            The waterfall is located southwest of Zillhausen. Here the Büttenbach plunges around 24 meters into the depth. After heavy rainfall it is a special spectacle. The waterfall is also really spectacular in winter. Then the water of the Büttenbach solidifies into a huge ice sculpture. A steel staircase leads down from above, followed by fortified steps. Nevertheless, the ascent requires good surefootedness. And especially when the waterfall is exciting, it is unfortunately very slippery.

                  A very nice hike in ever changing landscape up to the Alb plateau. A total of 10 information boards along the route clarify geological features. The trail is very well marked by the symbol of the Ammonite. Good, sturdy shoes are recommended.

                    No water came over the waterfall 😢. The existing water was diverted downwards via a downpipe. The water level of the Büttenbach was quite low. Above the waterfall there is a suction point for the fire brigade.
