On the right Albstadt Laufen and Lautlingen, on the left Dürrwangen / Frommern, behind that Stockenhausen Zillhausen and Streichen, on the left of Frommern comes Weilstetten and behind it Balingen. The White Jura of the Lochenstein shines brightly over the Swabian landscape. From the summit cross, the view sweeps east to Hohenzollern Castle and the Alpine peaks in the south. Without a doubt a sublime view! Nowhere is the Albtrauf so impressive. How the edge of the Albtrauf breaks off again and again over the millennia becomes clear on the Gespaltener Fels. An original natural landscape has been preserved in the rocky area. Plants that have become rare, such as hawkweed, rock hungerweed or wall rue, find their optimal habitat here.
For more than 150 years, the Lochen area has been known as a find region for small fossils that emerge from the 156-million-year-old marl (the "hole layers") of the White Jura alpha.

The 956 m high Hörnle forms a broad mountain head on the Albtrauf high above the Eyachtal. It consists of mass limestone from the Lochen Formation. At its northern foot is a vast sea of rocks. From here you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Eyachtal and the foothills of the Swabian Alb.
Attractive hiking trails lead past here, including the two certified quality hiking trails Donau-Zollernalb-Weg and Albsteig as well as one of the three Meßstetter premium hiking trails "HochAlbPfade": the Tieringer Hörnle.
