The Jena City Museum «Gohr» is a late and neo-Gothic building complex on the Jena market square.
With the founding of the university in 1558, a new era of urban development began. Urban life changed in the sense of the university. Famous scholars such as Fichte, Schelling and Hegel ensured the city's reputation. The beginnings of industrialization are also characterized by the courageous creative will of outstanding personalities such as Zeiss, Abbe and Schott. His small mechanic workshop was the beginning of Zeiss' success story. The exhibition on the city's history shows Jena from the beginning of its development to the modern era.

The city museum, often still called "Göhre" in Jena, is located in a late Gothic building on the north side of the market. The name goes back to Paul Göhre, who bought the house in 1883 and ran a wine shop and a wine restaurant here. Since 1988, exhibitions on Jena's city history have been shown in the old part of the "Göhre". With its valuable holdings on regional history, it is a place for the city's society to come to terms with itself, enriching this discourse, especially with historical aspects.
