The Renkums Beekdal is partly a new nature reserve. Industrial estate 'Beukenlaan', which included a paper factory and a rubber processing company, was completely cleared at the beginning of the twenty-first century. It was then redesigned so that it is again a natural part of the stream valley. This intervention was completed in 2013 and made it possible to create the ecological connection zone 'Renkumse Poort'. As a result, the Veluwe is connected to the floodplains of the Rhine. The purpose of this connecting zone is that wild animals such as red deer can reach the floodplains from the Veluwe.
