The Ratskeller was built on a vaulted cellar from the 13th century around 1520 - after the previous building was destroyed during the Hildesheim collegiate feud
had fallen victim to the flames – rebuilt. However, the oldest visible components date back to the 14th century and are very well preserved.
The Ratskeller with its outbuildings on Nordstrasse and Langen Strasse (later commercial building) was used in the past as a court of law, pub, storeroom, ballroom, mayor's and city bailiff's apartment. At the end of the 20th century the Ratskeller was renovated and changed to its present form. For now
(2013) there are offices and in the basement - continuing the old tradition - a restaurant. The neighboring building at Lange Str. 14 was built in 1865 and
then served as the town hall for 15 years.
An excavation profile can be viewed in the Wunstorf Info section of the local history association.
