The Endless Staircase is a sculpture made of North American granite by the Swiss architect, artist and designer Max Bill for Ernst Bloch in 1991. It is in the immediate vicinity of the Wilhelm Hack Museum in the center of the city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein. According to the artist, the 19 winding granite steps, which reach almost ten meters high, represent the philosophical principle of hope from the philosopher Ernst Bloch. The substructure consists of a cylindrical base. The steps are all the same, but have different effects due to the light and shadow effects.
