One of the best known routes in Asturias. This gorge opened in the rock by the Las Xanas stream is a spectacle for the eyes and for the camera. In it we can discover, if we look closely, stalactites from ancient caves opened in the limestone and that the river cut leaving them uncovered.

The Ruta de las Xanas through the gorge of the same name is really reminiscent of the Ruta del Cares. The two gorges are very similar in shape, and the path is similar to the Ruta del Cares in the steep wall of the gorge and also leads through two or three short tunnels. In terms of size, the Desfiladero de las Xanas can by no means keep up with the divine, but the vegetation seems to be much more lush.

In the upper third, some paths lead down to the stream. If you don't take the first one right away, you can get back up without too much trouble.

The hook towards the end of the tour can be shortened through the side valley - my hiking guide led me along there. However, the way up then leads on a slippery path when wet through high thorn undergrowth, here I would take the main path next time.
