From the Rhine meadows, there is an impressive view of the Mülheim Bridge, which spans the Rhine elegantly. At night, the scene is particularly atmospheric: the bridge is illuminated, its lights reflecting in the calm waters of the Rhine, and in the background, the Cologne skyline shimmers.

The Mülheim Bridge, as it exists today, connects the two districts of Riehl and Mülheim. It was opened in 1951 and is actually the third bridge to stand on this site. Originally, a different design was to be built when the bridge was put out to tender. However, the then-mayor, Konrad Adenauer, wanted this suspension bridge (equipped with cables by Felten & Guilleaume). Since he couldn't secure a majority for it within his own party, he lobbied the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) for this bridge (and, according to legend, he supposedly tricked the KPD into agreeing to it). The bridge is painted in the so-called Cologne Bridge Green, or Adenauer Green.

It is 682.80 meters long and weighs approximately 14,800 tons. It cost around 10 million Reichsmarks at the time.
