Striking structure in the Asian part of the West Park, which in fact has to be distinguished from both the Japanese and Chinese gardens. The display board informs the interested user accordingly. The small waterway protects it from access by park visitors.

"A nine-meter-high Thai sala with a Buddha statue stands on a platform in a water basin. The statue was consecrated by the abbot of the Buddharama monastery in Waalwijk and was the first free-standing Buddha shrine in Europe. The water basin was only included in the park planning at a later date added to separate the pagoda from the flow of visitors. " (Wikipedia)

"Our Thai-Sala is built in the splendid Bangkok style and richly decorated with lacquer painting and glazed bricks. It was donated by a German merchant from Bangkok. The sculpture in the Thai-Sala was consecrated, making the Sala the first Buddhist shrine in Germany." (Building Department Munich)
