Sgwd Yr Eira is the star attraction of the Brecon Beacons' much-loved 'Waterfall Country' walk. Meaning 'fall of snow' in Welsh, it tumbles over the 50 foot (15.2 m) tall cliff like a beautiful veil of water. What makes the waterfall so special is that you can walk behind it for a truly incredible thing to experience. Do take care when walking behind the falls, though, as the path is rocky, wet and slippery. Make sure you have decent walking boots and waterproofs.

Waterfall Country (or sometimes Waterfalls Country) is the name given to an area around the head of the Vale of Neath in South Wales where an unusually large number of publicly accessible waterfalls are located. The area is loosely defined but generally includes the group of falls on the Nedd Fechan, Pyrddin, Hepste and Mellte rivers, all of which lie in the country between the villages of Pontneddfechan and Ystradfellte in the southern part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. All of these falls lie within or on the boundary of the county of Brecknockshire, now part of the unitary authority of Powys. A few miles further west are Henrhyd Falls on the Nant Llech, a tributary of the Tawe and to the south-west are Melin Court Falls on the Melin Court Brook, a tributary of the River Neath. These, along with Aberdulais Falls on the Dulais, a further tributary of the Neath are also encompassed by the term 'Waterfall/s Country' by some writers.

Collectively the falls are one of the more popular natural attractions in South Wales, which has caused problems of erosion in the vicinity of many of the falls. Most occupy locations designated as sites of special scientific interest or as special areas of conservation which aim to protect the biodiversity and geodiversity of these sites.

This is just a beautiful walking area. If you do the 'full' 20km waterfall walk you can take in most of the waterfalls in this area that are on the rivers Mellte, Hepste and Nedd Fechan. You can start at a variety of points around the route that has car parking namely Ystradfellte, Porth Yr Ogof or Pontneddfechan. Otherwise just do the best sections of the walk. A great walk but make sure you have good hiking shoes and loads to drink. It is really rocky in parts and by the waterfall but brilliant views.

Beautiful waterfall, but make sure you're not there on a sunny Sunday, because then it will be very busy, and you will get stuck behind many (slow walking, because slippery) people.

Wonderful set of falls, like a curtain of water that you can walk behind (and you will get wet...). These falls can be photographed from either side and both sides will give excellent shots. If these falls are in full flow they do kick up a lot of spray, and in which case the south bank gets less spray.
