A pilgrimage chapel to the Sorrowful Mother of God (Mater Dolorosa) is mentioned as early as 1693. It belonged to the parish of Kürten. In 1906 the parish became independent. In 1909 a new church was built in the neo-Gothic style. The choir was expanded in 1959 by Bernhard Rotterdam. Biesfeld is a place of pilgrimage to worship the painful mother. The church is registered as a monument under no.114 in the list of architectural monuments in Kürten.

The Roman Catholic Church of the Sorrowful Mother is a neo-Gothic sacred building in the Biesfeld district of Kürten in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district. It belongs to the Catholic parish of St. Marien in Kürten.

A chapel in today's Biesfeld was first mentioned in 1693. A vicarage set up shortly thereafter provided pastoral care for the faithful.

On the site of today's church, a 15.7 meter long and 7.5 meter wide new chapel made of quarry stone was built in 1862 and 1863, as the old chapel had become too small in the meantime. Due to a strong increase in the Biesfeld population, the space in this chapel was no longer sufficient, so that it was demolished in 1908 and replaced by a new church designed by the Cologne architect Josef Lehmenkuehler after the chapel community was raised to an independent parish in 1906.

In 1911 the nave and in 1913 the tower of the new church were completed. The church was rebuilt in 1959 and 1960 according to plans by the architect Bernhard Rotterdam.

The first mention of a chapel was as early as 1693, when an oak tree was delivered and charged for the chapel, possibly for repair.
The chapel was demolished and construction of the current church began in 1908. The new building was demolished after just one month, continued after a year of standstill in 1909 and completed in 1911. The church was built in the neo-Gothic style as a hall building, but without a distinct choir. The tower was built in 1913.
