Of the original castle Hagen that once stood here, only the building with the stepped gable remains today. The castle was built in the 15th century and destroyed after two fires (in the 17th and 20th centuries). It was then completely restored, so that you will now find several beautiful buildings on the site.

The manor Hagen was founded as a fortified farm in the Middle Ages. It was owned by a family from the so-called landed gentry. Until the Eighty Years' War, the Sion monastery was also located in the area, which was demolished during this war. After a fire in 1656, the house was rebuilt in its current form. Around 1900 De Kelder was used as a hunting lodge and then as a scout clubhouse. In 1934 it was completely restored after a second big fire and put into use as a regional museum.

Very surprising to suddenly encounter such a medieval building on this beautiful walk. The landscape takes you back to earlier times and is still very authentic. Beautiful alternation of old forests and open fields with heathland and fens.
