The Bädertörle is a small side gate in the Waiblingen city wall that opens onto the mill ditch of the Bürgerermühle. Since the eighties of the 20th century, a small footbridge has led across the water to the Great Alder Island. In the past, you could only wade through the water or get into a boat here. In historic Waiblingen, the gate had the task of creating access to the water that the various craftsmen based in this location could use. This is the place where tanners were mainly based and watered animal hides. There could also have been a bathhouse in the Middle Ages, from which the Bädertörle may have got its name. The name can also be derived from the bathers, the non-academic doctors of the Middle Ages. In addition, it was of course easily possible to swim directly in the river from here. Until the 19th century, women are said to have washed laundry in the passage through the gate.
