Wurfeld Castle was founded in the seventeenth century by two brothers who were canons at the Chapter of Our Lady in Maaseik. They built the residence - which later became the castle - near the St. Laurentius Chapel, which later became the St. Laurentius Church. In 1900, the residence was expanded into a small castle with a beautiful park. Today it serves as a hotel, restaurant and location for parties and meetings. I personally find some of the innovations less successful, but it is a very beautiful location with a beautiful park and some historic outbuildings behind the castle that are not really on a walking path.

Before the parking lot next to the castle, there is a larger parking lot past the gate at the end of the driveway. You can stand there for the walk and you will find information boards and the official start of your walk.

At the entrance to the castle you will find a sculpture by Jean Van Wierst called "Dark Heaven".

Almost nothing can be seen of the castle from the road; you have to walk a little further up the driveway. To be honest, I wasn't very impressed....
