On June 27, 1886, the Angermuseum was inaugurated as Erfurt's first municipal museum. [1] It is housed in the building that formerly housed the public scale Erfurts am Anger. The balance had been necessary at that time, so that incoming trade goods could be correspondingly cleared. Originally, only the gallery on the first floor was used for the museum. The building was built 1706-1711 to plans by the architect Johann Maximilian von Welsch. It is a Franconian-influenced baroque building in whose pediment is St. Martin, the patron saint of the city (Wikipedia).

The former Kurmainzische packing and weighing yard from the early 18th century with its richly decorated ornate facade is one of the most beautiful buildings in Erfurt's old town.

Over a hundred years ago, in 1886, due to the donation of the artistic estate of Friedrich Nerly by his son to the city of Erfurt, a picture gallery was opened here, but within a short time a multi-faceted collection structure developed in terms of cultural history, which was later divided into other buildings City Museum, the Thuringian Folklore Museum and the Natural History Museum.

The baroque city palace now houses the art museum of the state capital Erfurt.
