“Pony kids” are children and young people from the dreary suburbs of Dublin who have bought a pony at the Smithfield horse market and then ride the animals through the city - without a saddle, bridle or reins.
The artist Cornelia Brader was inspired by the pony kids during a trip to Ireland, took numerous photos while visiting the horse market and used them as a template for her sculptures.

The work was on display at the traditional garden show in the Park der Gärten in Bad Zwischenahn, Lower Saxony, in 2006, and won both the jury and audience awards.
