The Pieschen town hall, inaugurated in 1891, was built in the neo-renaissance style. The Sorbian alley village was first mentioned in 1292 as Peschen, which translated means sandy area. The inhabitants lived from fishing, fruit growing, viticulture and beekeeping, but were very poor because the harvests were hardly productive due to the sandy soil. From the middle of the 19th century the tide turned. With the completion of the port, the construction of the railway line from Dresden to Leipzig and the settlement of businesses, Pieschen experienced an economic boom and developed into a large working-class residence. The explosive increase in residents made it necessary to build a new town hall. Even today, portraits of the local councils of the time decorate the outer facade.
