The best pub in the world. Get a pint of Loweswater Gold whilst sitting in the beer garden with views of Melbreak. Can't beat it!

This has to be one of the best pubs in the Lake District National Park. Both the food and drink are of high quality. I thoroughly enjoyed the 'posh' fish finger sandwich on ciabatta and sticky toffee pudding!

Are there easy, pram-friendly walking trails directly accessible from the Kirkstile Inn?

While many trails in the Lake District can be rugged, there are options for easier, family-friendly walks near the Kirkstile Inn. The paths around Loweswater Lake itself offer relatively flat terrain, and some sections might be suitable for sturdy prams, especially those designed for off-road use. For truly pram-accessible routes, it's always best to check specific trail conditions or local guides, as terrain can vary.

What are some recommended family-friendly walks near the Kirkstile Inn, suitable for various ages?

For families, a popular choice is the circular walk around Loweswater Lake, which is relatively flat and offers beautiful views. Another option is a gentle stroll along the shores of Crummock Water. For slightly older children or those seeking a bit more adventure, the lower slopes of Melbreak offer rewarding views without requiring a full ascent. These walks provide a great way to experience the tranquil beauty of the area.

How challenging is the Melbreak fell walk from the Kirkstile Inn?

The ascent of Melbreak from the Kirkstile Inn is considered a moderately challenging fell walk. While not exceptionally high, it involves steep sections and rocky terrain, requiring a good level of fitness and appropriate footwear. The views from the summit are spectacular, offering panoramic vistas of Loweswater, Crummock Water, and the surrounding fells. It's a rewarding hike for experienced walkers but might be too strenuous for very young children or those unaccustomed to fell walking.

Is public transport available to reach the Kirkstile Inn in Loweswater?

Reaching the Kirkstile Inn by public transport can be challenging due to its tranquil, less-visited location in the western Lake District. While there are bus services to larger towns in the Lake District, direct routes to Loweswater are limited. It's advisable to check current bus timetables for the most up-to-date information, but generally, a car is the most convenient way to access the inn and explore the surrounding area.

Is the Kirkstile Inn and its surrounding trails suitable for visiting during winter months?

Yes, the Kirkstile Inn is a fantastic destination year-round. In winter, the inn offers a warm and cozy haven with its traditional interiors and real log fires. While some higher fell walks may become more challenging or require specialist equipment due to snow and ice, many lower-level walks around Loweswater and Crummock Water remain accessible. What are the specific rules for bringing dogs to the Kirkstile Inn, especially regarding dining?

However, it's important to note that dogs are not permitted in the main dining room during evening food service. This policy ensures a comfortable experience for all guests.

Are there other pubs or cafes nearby for refreshments after a walk?

The Kirkstile Inn is somewhat secluded, nestled in the tranquil Loweswater valley. While it boasts an excellent reputation for food and drink, including its own Loweswater Gold ale, there are not many other pubs or cafes within immediate walking distance. What kind of food can I expect at the Kirkstile Inn, and do they cater to dietary requirements?

The Kirkstile Inn is renowned for its wholesome, home-cooked meals prepared with local and seasonal Cumbrian produce.
