"... The Prosper coking plant was put into operation in 1928. It was designed as a central coking plant to replace the many small coking plants. This central coking plant was much more economical than the small coking plants.

Initially, the coking plant had 4 batteries. In the 1930s, three more batteries were added. In the Second World War, the Prosper coking plant was badly damaged in 1944, but was rebuilt after the end of the war.

Between 1982 and 1989, the entire coking plant was modernized.

The coking plant gas is produced as a by-product and is temporarily stored and marketed in a large 250,000 m³ disc gas container (gasometer).

Up until the 1960s, there were around 30 coking plants in the Ruhr area. Today, the Prosper coking plant is one of only three coking plants still in operation in the Ruhr area. ..."

The Prosper coking plant of Ruhrkohle AG was built at the end of the 1920s as one of 17 central coking plants in the Ruhr area.

In addition to around 5,000 tons of coke every day, the coking plant also produces coke oven gas for surrounding industrial plants. Gas cleaning also produces byproducts such as benzene and tar for the chemical industry.
