Although the city garden was planned as early as 1913, it was not laid out until 1921 according to drafts by the city administration in the style of an English landscape garden. Over the years, the 16.4-acre Stadtgarten (plus 6.1 hectares for the Overbeckshof allotment garden) has been changed several times, but fortunately the characteristic picture of the garden design of that epoch has been preserved.
The city garden is particularly interesting due to the varied alternation of wide lawns, old trees and variedly planted terrains.
In addition to the opportunities for long walks, visits to the Josef Albers Museum and the Museum of Prehistory and Local History, a trip with children to the large adventure playground and mini golf games offers especially the large lawn between the park restaurant "Overbeckshof" and the Marienhospital Opportunity for fun and games for all ages.
The city garden borders on the Köllnischer Wald. The Köllnische forest is a large forest landscape, which invites to long walks and bike rides. Here you will also find the two city ponds. Nestled in the forest, they offer the visitor pure nature.
