The European institutions with their modern palaces made of glass, steel and concrete are all located in the European Quarter.
STRASBOURG AS THE SEAT OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
Over half a century, the area around the Orangery has developed into an international relations area. The enormous glass palace of the European Parliament has been rising on the banks of the Ill and the Rhine-Marne Canal since 1998. The representatives of the European Union meet in its plenary hall with 750 seats four days a month.

The building, built according to the plans of Architecture-Studio Europe, consists of three bodies: an elliptical parliamentary wing, a round tower and an agora located between these two units. According to the planners, the architecture is intended to illustrate a “system of open relationships […] modeled on a united democracy that continues to develop in a lively manner.”

THE EU MEMBERS MEETING IN THE LARGEST PLENARY HALL IN EUROPE
The 60 meter high tower made of glass and sandstone houses 1,133 offices on seventeen floors. The tower, which appears unfinished on its eastern facade, is intended to symbolize Europe, which is constantly being rebuilt. The conference rooms are housed in the arched parliament wing with its glass facade. This building is structured around three internal streets, with the main street designed like a winter garden with a philodendron forest.

The heart of the central arch is the “Dôme”, a wooden plenary hall in which the representatives meet. The impressive glass facade extends over 13,000 square meters on the banks of the Ill and the Rhine-Marne Canal and is intended to symbolize the democratic transparency of the European Union.
