      The name Big Ben (English short form for “big Benjamin”) refers to the heaviest of the five bells of the famous clock tower at the Palace of Westminster in London, weighing 13.5 t.

      The name Big Ben is also often applied to the clock or the clock tower. The tower has been officially called the Elizabeth Tower since September 2012.

      The renaming of the former Clock Tower took place on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee and was approved by the British Parliament.
