The building was designed in its current form in the 16th century in the Renaissance style. Older parts are from the 15th century in the Gothic style. The painter
Bernardo Bellotto, called Canaletto, painted a painting of the Pirna market in 1753/56, which showed the house, and so the name was transferred to the building. Today the Pirna tourist information center is located there.

Particularly worth seeing are the town hall, the Canaletto House and the St. Mary's Church, which is full of architectural treasures. By the way: The Malerweg, one of the most beautiful German hiking routes, leads right through Pirna.
The highlight of Pirna is undoubtedly the old town, which has been preserved almost true to its original state, with the famous Canaletto view. The Venetian vedute painter Bernardo Bellotto, known as Canaletto, lived in Pirna from 1753 to 1755 and created a total of eleven views of the city. The most famous - the market square in Pirna - is recreated every year in April with amateur actors as a "living Canaletto picture". You can see the town hall, which is located in the middle of the market square, the Canaletto House, today the home of the Tourist Service Pirna, the St. Mary's Church and Sonnenstein Castle high above the city.

Sights and facilities

The well-known sights in the old town include St. Mary's Church, the ensemble of buildings around the market square with the town hall, the Peter Ulrich House and the Canaletto House, the Erlpeter Fountain and the Devil's Oriel House.

The most important central municipal facility in the old town is the Pirna Town Hall in the middle of the market. The old town is also home to the Pirna City Library and the City Museum, among others. The Pirna Iron Chamber was located in what is now the town hall at Markt 10 until the 17th century.
