Volkspark Rheinhausen
Flower borders, ponds and, above all, lots of trees - Volkspark Rheinhausen is a place where you can really relax. Not only patients from the neighboring Johanniter Hospital appreciate the beneficial effects of a visit to the park. With a music pavilion, boules alley and park café, the Volkspark is actually something like the Kurpark Rheinhausen.
The "little visitors" can be delighted with a visit to the dam animal enclosure, playground or mini golf course.
The 8 km long, tightly knit network of trails enables joggers and walkers to adapt the course to their own energy reserves almost at will. And if you really want to let off steam again, you can simply go to the football field "with friends and a ball".
There is something for everyone here - it is the "people's park" among the green spaces.

History of the Volkspark
In the first expansion phase in 1928/1930, with the support of the settlement association Ruhrkohlenbezirks (SVR; today: Regionalverband Ruhr - RVR), a 5-hectare facility was built along Gartenstrasse. It was laid out according to the plans of the garden architects Pohlenz and Müller and its lines strictly followed the models of the French Renaissance gardens.
After the construction of an allotment garden on Moerser Strasse in 1949, the park was expanded by 32 hectares in 1950. In the course of this expansion, an area filled with rubbish was redesigned into a hill and greened. In the years between 1955 and 1962, again with the support of the SVR, an area of 4.5 hectares was developed like a park; another (18.6 ha) was afforested in a forest-like manner. The old part of the Volkspark, which was affected by the effects of the war and subsidence, was redesigned at the same time.
The facility is equipped with several play and sports facilities, water areas (flamingo pond, Johanniter pond), a heather garden, a dam animal enclosure, a music pavilion, a park café, a mini golf course. Concerts are performed seasonally in the music pavilion.
