The horse gallows cross is a commemorative cross, which reminds of a Swedish soldier on the trunk of an imposing beech since the year 1631, which is said to have killed exactly here.

During the Thirty Years' War, one day the soldier himself is said to have strangled himself as he rode past the then mighty tree. It must have been a very unfavorable chain of several tragic circumstances, which led to the fact that the strap of his rifle caught so unfavorable in the branches, that the soldier hanged himself here. The investigation of the real happenings at the Pferdsgalgenkreuz could not be fully explained until today.

The old wooden cross, which has been remembering the tragic accident for over 385 years, was partially restored in 1954, but this place has lost none of its mystical appeal.

The cross hangs from a mighty, old beech just off the main path. The other route, which is still drawn in the maps, is no longer farmed. At first I ran past it, although I was looking for it.
