On Sunday, May 4, 1924, the World War I memorial of the village of Hőgyész was unveiled, commemorating 130 heroic dead. The inauguration was attended by General Lajos Maxon, representing the Governor and the Ministry of Defense, Márton Ély, Deputy Chancellor of Tolna County, Prince József, General Sándor Ágya-Papp, Brigadier General Gyula Balassa, Count Károly Apponyi . The ceremony began with a camp mass, followed by a speech by Vice-President Márton Ély and Prince Joseph. The sculpture on the corner of Fő utca and Kossuth tér is the work of Rózsa Soltész-Scháffner.
