The market square fountain with the Grand Duke Ludwig monument was designed by Weinbrenner. He got his water from the first pipe, inaugurated at the beginning of 1824, which supplied the public fountains in Karlsruhe with water from a Durlach spring. The statue (1833) was reconstructed after World War II.

The surrounding buildings of the market square were mainly designed by the architect Weinbrenner. The Protestant city church, the town hall and the famous pyramid above the grave of the city's founder are located here.
Since the construction of the subway, the square has been a pedestrian zone again for the first time in a long time. In the meantime, various tram lines ran above ground here, alongside car traffic.
During Advent, you will find parts of the Christmas market here. The evening market (later a weekly market) is located here. And festivals are always held here in the center of the city of Karlsruhe, founded in 1715.
