The funerary chapel is located in Lärchenallee des Hardtwalds, on the edge of the Fasanengarten between Adenauerring and Klosterweg.
It is one of the most atmospheric monuments of Baden's history.
The clients were the Baden Grand Duke Friedrich I and his wife Luise of Prussia. The reason for this was the early death of their youngest son Ludwig Wilhelm. The parents wished to be able to commemorate his stay away from the noise of the city "in the seclusion of deep forest peace".

It was built by order of Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden and his wife Luise after the early death of their son Ludwig Wilhelm (1865-1888). It was opened on June 29, 1896.
There are two fountains to the side of the burial chapel. It also has a crypt that can only be visited as part of a guided tour.
