The memorial was unveiled on May 21, 1913, the day before the composer's 100th birthday. The unveiling took place in the presence of the initiator Ernst von Possart and the Prince Regent Ludwig. The inauguration of the monument, felt by many Munich residents as compensation to Richard Wagner (he had to flee the city in 1865), took place with lively public participation.

The Richard Wagner Monument is a monumental seat created by the sculptor Heinrich Waderé for the composer Richard Wagner. It is located in a green area on Prinzregentenplatz in Munich's Bogenhausen district between the Prinzregententheater and the Prinzregentenstadion.
