Not for swimming, but the centerpiece of a small park: the Schäfersee is a 4.5-acre, approximately 7-meter deep circular lake in Reinickendorf-East, just a few meters from the district boundary to Wedding.

The bathhouse, which was still around the turn of the century, has indeed disappeared. But there is a boat rental on the eastern shore, which invites you to explore the Schäfersee.

The water park, which was built in the 1920s and allows the lake to be completely circumnavigated, has a large playground and a "Trees of the Year" show.

In 1987, when the subway was inaugurated from the Osloer Straße to the Paracelsus Bad, renounced naming the station located within sight of the Schäfersee after this geographically significant point and gave her the name Franz Neumann Square (Am Schäfersee).

There was a sheep farm here in the 18th century, after which the lake was named. Next door were the Mudrack and Thater ice factories, which use large ice ponds and, in some cases, the Schäfersee as well. The ice ponds have disappeared. There are now allotments and 4 houses on the Mudrackzeile. There is also a Thaterstrasse.
