Lønstrup rescue station is on a steep slope. The station is jointly owned by the fishing association and the local association for Lønstrup and the surrounding area. In the building you can see an exhibition about the history of fishing in Lønstrup. The Lønstrup dinghy "Marly" is also located here, which was built in 1956 at Evald Larsen's old shipyard in Lønstrup. The old Lønstrup dinghy has been lovingly restored by Lønstrup Bådelaug. In 2001 Marly was fully restored, but it wasn't until Sunday June 17, 2007 that she came out again to sail on the North Sea. The test sailing passed Rubjerg Knude to Løkken.

The dangerous waters of Jammerbugten have always been feared. Here, ships have to navigate through strong currents, huge waves and around treacherous sandbanks. This has led to many ships being stranded over the years. Often the crew went down with the ship. Despite these tragic circumstances, it was often a happy event for the inhabitants of the small fishing villages. The strandings meant that the beach was swarming with flotsam and jetsam from the wrecked ships, which could be collected and sold. Selling flotsam and jetsam provided families with an additional source of income that got them through hard times.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, the towns flourished when they were allowed to trade with southern Norway in smaller boats (skude trade). This meant that Norwegian wood was shipped to Denmark and various goods were sailed to Norway, such as brandy, meat, cheese and butter. Lökken and Blokhus in particular prospered under the “skude trade”, and over time trade was also conducted in this way with many other countries.

In 1852, rescue services were enshrined in law and rescue stations were built in Blokhus, Lökken and Lönstrup. This meant that there were better opportunities to rescue shipwrecked people. The rescue stations can still be seen in all three places, although the rescue station in Blokhus was built in 2009 as a replica of the station that was destroyed in World War II.
