Pilsen is most certainly known for its beer. That's a good reason. For you as a racing cyclist, there is one more: Pilsen was regularly stage goal of the International Peace Race. If you drive here, you probably will not race, so you have the chance to combine both. Just ride the bike to the great square of the Republic and enjoy a delicious, cool Pilsener framed by magnificent historic houses in one of the cafes or restaurants. ;)

When the city was founded, the market square was one of the largest in Europe, measuring 139 x 193 m. Three modern fountains grace the square - the Greyhound, the Camel and the Angel. The plague column was built in 1681 as a thank you for the mild course of the plague epidemic in the previous year. The top of the Plague Column is decorated with a replica of the Pilsen Madonna; the original is on the main altar of the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew. The historic Renaissance town hall is considered a Renaissance gem, which was built in the years 1554-1559 according to the plans of the Italian master builder Giovanni de Statia. Many events and traditional markets take place in the town square.

The enormous market square (Republic Square) measures an incredible 193 x 139 meters – one of the largest in Europe! On the north side is the beautiful Renaissance town hall; however, the square is dominated by St. Bartholomew's Church, which towers above everything else by several times (the next superlative: the tower is 102 meters high! The tallest church tower in the Czech Republic!). Three fountains, symbolizing the three coats of arms (angel, greyhound, and camel), trickle across the square.
